Mek & Tosj are pleased to announce a major update to their 2007 Apple Design Award winning application Papers, a program which helps scientists on the Mac to create and organize their Personal Library of Scientific literature. The Papers 1.5 update brings over 100 new features and bug fixes and is the most significant update of Papers we've done to date. By far the most exciting new feature is the support for search engine plugins, it ships with built-in support for Google Scholar, Google Books, Pubmed, Scopus and Web of Science. This makes Papers even more useful for a much wider range of scientists. Papers Papers 1.5 is now also fully compatible with Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard, has an improved and streamlined user interface, and more tightly integrates with other applications in your literature workflow.

Less than two weeks ago we were delighted to release Papers officially as 1.0. Although we were convinced Papers had finally reached the level to make it ready for prime time use (and there was certainly something to say for that), your feedback made us clear that some aspects of the program needed a bit more finishing touch. Today we release Papers 1.0.2 which does exactly that. Of course there will always be issues left as we can't possibly test Papers under all conditions, therefore if you encounter problems please let us know. We are very grateful to all of you who sent us their feedback, bug reports and feature requests. Your help allowed us to create this update. EnzymeX wins Apple Design Award 2006!

Yesterday on August 9th, mekentosj won their second Apple Design Award this time for EnzymeX in the category 'Best Mac OS X Scientific Computing Solution'. The release will coincide at this year's WWDC. We hope that the BioCocoa project's presence at the WWDC will generate lots of attention from developers who would like to join in our efforts to create a killer bioinformatics framework that developers in the biosciences can use to create stunning new applications.

We have fixed many smaller and larger bugs, made many improvements, and even added some spectacular new features like Spotlight integration. At last there is a decent DNA sequence editing and analysis program that is worthy to run on MacOSX. We have completely rewritten EnzymeX and turned it into a fullblown DNA editor. Analyze your constructs the Mac way, never before it was so easy and so much fun! And of course, there is still all the information you ever want to know about over 600 restriction enzymes. Finally you can get rid of all those boring programs that look sooo yesterday.

It was used in a study that identifies two important microRNAs as oncogenes in testicular germ cell cancer, the same type that Lance Armstrong was cured from. Normally when you insert a CD in your Mac it disappears, but where does it go? They simply pop up on your desktop!
