1.10h San Francisco, USA | Today was once again an early rise, today the WWDC opens with the keynote from Steve Jobs starting at 10. That means however that we had to be there at around 8 to assure at least a place in the main room. If you're to late you have to watch it on a screen in one of the smaller rooms, and that's just not the same. My fancy high level access yellow tagged pass almost forced me to do so. Because their would be 'overflow' I, as a 'Apple' person should make space for those who really had paid for the conference. Luckily I had the student tag so after switching it I could just enter the normal way ;-) The queue was long, but we had lots of fun speculating about what would be announced. At 9.30 we were in the presidio -the main hall- and ready to start. The keynote was definitely worth waiting for, very humoristic and quite some Microso$t bashing towards their Vista operating system. They really are just copying, guess that's why we didn't see any changes to the finder yet, the really big thing of Leopard. However, what we did see was already astounding, cool stuff. And the sessions after only brought more great things for developers. I can't tell because of the Non-Disclosure Agreement, but it will be bloody spectacular! During the OSX State of the Union I sat next to the guys from The Iconfactory, cool folks and lot's of both fun and insider info ;-)
- After all the great sessions we met with Charles from the Xgrid project, Drew McCormack, Redmar, Phil, and me outside the Moscone to have a nice meet&greet. Unfortunately Drew had to meet up with the MacResearch guys, but with the four we went for dinner, ending up at the same place as last year. Very nice evening, with quite some interesting ideas and heated discussions about the best architecture for BioCocoa. Something to definitely work out further. At 10pm we called it a day and went back to the hotel. And guess what. My bag arrived. They took the flask of Porto wine out! I didn't know that wasn't allowed, but that was what had been taken out for security reasons. Unfortunately they damaged by bag (or the airport did perhaps), so I have hole to fix before returning. But at least I have my cloth, including the mekentosj shirts and fresh underwear (thank god).
Just now I updated Tom on all things happening here through a little video/audio chat, and now it's time to take some sleep. Big day tomorrow!!
