0.48h - Lisbon, Portugal | Here you'll find Mek's diary of this year's WWDC. Yes, unfortunately Tosj could not go this year, but that doesn't mean Mek&Tosj are not both at the WWDC, Tom follows everything closely from Amsterdam. This year's WWDC promises to bring many exciting events. We can't reveal them all yet, but you'll find them here first. Stay tuned! Mek&Tosj.

22.11h - San Francisco, USA | What happened today will never happen again, first because I was stupid, second because it was like a scene from a movie, simply unbelievable. But let's rewind back to almost 24 hours ago. I woke up at 6 in the morning and Tânia brought the two of us to the airport, still very much sleepy. I had checked in online so everything went extremely smooth, we had a last cup of tea together and of I went towards London. Slept most of that flight, and before I realized I was at Heathrow, we even were half an hour early. The transfer went swiftly and the two hours wait past quickly, and soon I found myself in the air for the next 10.5 hours. That took really looooooong, but the wait was worth it because I got the most beautiful landing over San Francisco you can imagine. Clear skies and you would have seen than with a round trip by helicopter (let alone pay enormously more). The immigration stuff always takes long, and after I headed off to bagage belt 7. My bag was already making rounds while waiting for me. I did notice that it had gotten a bit dirty on the top and that it didn't have my address label anymore, which probably had fallen off. Anyway, via the usual BART ride, I stood within 30 min within the centre of San Francisco. I exited at Powell station, but quickly found out that the hotel was actually at Civic Centre station, about a 20 min walk, so quite a bit further than we spoiled students were used to from last year. But, the hotel looks great, I got a very nice room and free internet, what more do you need.

We had planned to, even after 24hrs without sleep, go for a beer. But the others were not online yet, so for some funny reason, and without actual need I decided to open my bag. No problem, the key fitted the lock, it opened, and... What's that. A power adapter? And an Apple shirt? I have those, but didn't pack them right? huh!!! Help!? This is not my bag? Unbelievable!? The same bag, even the lock opens with my key?! But it's not mine. What now?

As I said, the bag didn't have any label on. So I decided to search the bag for clues, and thank god, the guy had put a stack of business cards in his bag. It turned out to be owned by a british consultant from Apple named William. By then I had already realized that it had to be someone who also would go to the WWDC. I was hoping he had my bag and that he would find the mekentosj.com shirts (his key would fit my bag as well right ;-). I put a message on the homepage asking him to call me in case he would visit it. I phoned the number on his business card, voicemail. Asked him to phone me back, and the same I did in an email I sent him.

But what if he didn't have taken my bag, than it was still at the airport. So I started phoning the airport, but to no avail. The numbers did not exist, or they were closed. Only one solution: go back to the airport. In the lobby I decided to first call the guys to say that the beer would have to wait. And then William phoned me. No, he didn't have my bag. If he could pick up his. Luckily he wasn't mad, only happy to have his bag back. And mine? Luckily for me he remembered to have seen my name. My bag never arrived at San Francisco, it didn't make the plane and would come the next day. So he just saved me a trip to the airport for nothing. He also gave me his sheet with numbers to call when he picked up his bag, very friendly chap! Back in the hotelroom I phoned the numbers he had given me, and indeed the bag was still in London (the website says that items have been removed for security reasons, wonder what that will be and if they forced the lock...). Tomorrow they it will arrive and will be brought to the hotel. So everything seems come to a good end. But I am exhausted now. I'm going for a shower and then straight to bed.

Tomorrow it's an early wake up again, 7 o'clock, but the jetlag will probably help. We plan on meeting up together with Phil and Redmar at the Moscone center for registration at 7.30, after we go to the Mariott at 8 for breakfast. And after that, I'll tell you tomorrow... Enjoy the pictures! Mek.
