0:17 PDT - Tosj | First we want to say that we didn't manage to get the pictures from yesterday on-line. We have tried doing that in the Moscone center, but apparently Apple doesn't give us ftp access during the WWDC. So that's why we are a bit late. Speaking about time: we're over half of our trip now. Still 3 days of WWDC to go and one day for playing tourist again. Some nice events are still to come: tonight we have the Design Awards and Stump the Experts on the official program, and of course there will be the BioCocoa presentation! We hoped it would be included in the official program in teh daily e-mail, but it was not, so we hope the rumor has spread enough to get quite some people listening.
Of course we are not able to speak a lot about the sessions of the WWDC, we are under official license of the ADC, so we will not do that. Some people apparently did not completely keep to the rules, because pictures and benchmarks of the Intel Macs have already been posted on the internet! Well great, but of course the new Macs will be different from these and we will see by then how they perform.
Alex has been attending most of the meetings, while Tom has tried to get a better grip on the programming business. Around 6 p.m. we gathered with the BioCocoa team in the Science Connection room, to prepare for the presentation and the discussion afterwards. Just after 6.30 p.m. we started with the presentation and actually quite some people were attending. We first had a duscussion going on where to start the BioCocoa on top of Objective-C and later on the discussion became better and better.
At that time, Tom was looking at the Design Award ceremony, where he actually saw Peter Schols from the BioCocoa team ending as a runner up in the Best Mac OS X Student Product category with his program iMap! But Peter didn't show up for the award, because he was still in the BioCocoa meeting. Tom did take a picture from the slide and then rushed to the meeting to inform Peter. Peter was actually just walking to the ceremony, but Tom didn't see him on his way to the meeting. When he rushed back he was the one informing Peter about the big news! Apple didn't inform the finalists of this year that they were one of several finalists! So Peter didn't know and actually quite few runner ups where there during the ceremony, while the hosts of the night were 'complaining' that these people didn't show up...
In the end Peter was very delighted winning the runner up award, we had a few laughs about how it all went and he went out to celebrate of course. We decided to go and 'Stump the Experts'! It was great again to see all the experts on stage, answering all the strange, silly, and difficult questions from the audience. In the end of course the attendees won from the experts! Tomorrow: Campus Bash!
