22:12 PDT - Tosj | With a hell of a day behind us we wake up around 7:30, do the usual stuff and walk to the convention centre. Today we will dive deeper into the stuff we have heard yesterday and from the WWDC of last year on until yesterday, when everything seemed to be calm. We start with a sessions handling the new stuff in XCode 2.1 and spotlight. During the lunch session we had a discussion about data acquisition with quite some people attending the meeting. In three years the science connection on the WWDC has grown fast from a small gathering of scientific people through the science lounge of last year to more than 30 people attending todays meeting! And although the main problems encountered are dealing with how to get data out of databases that it has been stored in, people are getting around better each year.
During the session we were told about a new website dealing with science and macs: macresearch.org. In the 'about us' part of the website it is explained that: "Our goal is to simplify the task of installing and maintaining the Mac platform in a scientific research environment. Here you will find documented solutions to a host of challenges that commonly arise when deploying Apple technologies to support research. This web site aims to serve as a primary means of communication and collaboration among those supporting Mac platform for scientific research. This community is independently run and free of coporate bias. As such, all content provided herein is neither supported nor approved by Apple Computer." So a nice new website, although even to reed the text coupled to their RSS feed you have to be registered...
The last session of the day we skipped for BioCocoa reasons. We still had to finish the presentation for tomorrow night, so this was the right time to prepare them. In this way we would still have time for discussion with the other BioCocoa members before the presentation. Preparing those slides while you can also go to hands-on sessions or labs was quite difficult, but in the end we managed quite well. The only problem was that Alex began to have a headache, so we decided to go back to the hotel, so he could get some sleep. With no time for diner, Tom went for some drinks and food. With orange juice and a salad for Alex and a double Wopper with fries and a can of beer (1 pint 8 fl.oz = 0.7 liter) for himself her returned for his 'developer diner'...
