The group of prof. Gustafsson works focusses on nuclear receptors and works at Novum research center south of Stockholm. His group has published many reknowned papers on nuclear receptors, and is perhaps most known for the discovery of a second estrogen receptor in 1995. Today his work continues on this estrogen receptor beta, but also on other components of nuclear receptor signalling.
The capital of Sweden, Stockholm, is home to about 750.000 inhabitants. The city originates from the mid-13th century is build on 14 islands. Every year, Stockholm is the stage for the Nobel prize award ceremony in the characteristic city hall, or "stad huset".
The history center of Stockholm is known as "Gamla stan", or old city. Wandering around the old buildings one feels 300 years back in time. The island harbors among others the beautiful royal palace.
